Welcome Note
Dear SSE community,
Welcome to UN SSE’s Month in Brief, our refreshed newsletter bringing you highlights, practical resources, and opportunities to connect across our global network.
September saw the UN SSE team on the ground during New York Climate Week, working with partners to advance dialogue on the energy transition and strengthen board leadership on climate. Our collaboration with S&P Global Energy brought exchanges and market participants together at two events, one hosted by S&P and one hosted by CME, to explore how commodity and carbon markets can support the transition. Working with our partners at Chapter Zero, we convened board members and governance experts at a meeting hosted by NYSE/ICE.
Looking ahead, we are planning events at COP17 (the UN Biodiversity Conference), the UNCTAD World Investment Forum, and COP31 (the UN Climate Change Conference). These gatherings offer opportunities to share exchanges’ learning and experiences, deepen partnerships, and explore how capital markets can support progress on climate and nature.
In this edition, you will also find insights from our SSE Quarterly Members Webinar for Q3 featuring LuxSE, upcoming SSE Academy training opportunities, and a helpful resource developed with the IFC, the ISSB FAQ Database. We invite you to explore these updates and resources, and continue to stay involved in the critical conversations shaping our work.
Thank you for your continued engagement and collaboration.

The UN SSE’s partnership with S&P Global Energy took another step forward during New York Climate Week, bringing exchanges, regulators and market participants together to explore how commodity and carbon markets can support the energy transition. On 21 September, an Expert Group session examined clean power, storage and flexibility, while a Carbon Currents Roundtable hosted by CME Group focused on carbon-credit demand and the role of exchange-traded instruments. Learn more about the Expert Group here.

These discussions form part of the partnership’s wider programme of research, capacity building and peer learning, with Expert Group insights contributing to a forthcoming white paper on commodity markets and the energy transition. Read more.

The UN SSE will co-host four events in Yerevan, Armenia, from 22–27 October during the UN Biodiversity Conference (COP17), exploring how capital markets can help finance nature. Discussions will cover exchanges’ role in integrating nature into markets, board oversight and opportunities in bond markets. A highlight will be the launch of the SSE Action Plan on Nature, providing a practical roadmap for exchanges and regulators.
