About the Energy Transition Partnership
The UN SSE supports stock exchanges, commodity exchanges, and market participants in navigating the global energy transition through research, capacity building, and peer learning. In partnership with S&P Global Energy, the SSE equips exchanges with the data, market insights, and practical knowledge needed to engage with emerging energy transition markets, including carbon markets, clean fuels, battery metals, electrification, and carbon-accounted commodities. Through an expert group, global webinars, market monitors, technical training, and high-level dialogues, the SSE is helping to strengthen market infrastructure, improve understanding of transition-related financial products, and support the development of transparent, resilient, and sustainable capital markets.
The new collaboration envisions a full range of research publications, trainings and convenings around net-zero transition capacity building, peer learning, and knowledge products and is expected to include key elements such as the below:
- Market Insights Webinars
- In-Depth Energy Transition Training
- UN-Events-Related Experts Group on Commodity Markets and Energy Transition
- Carbon Markets Roundtables to Advance Dialogue and Knowledge-Sharing
- Data-Driven Market Monitors on Carbon & Emissions and Clean Energy & Scenarios
- Sustainable Trading Systems Resource/Whitepaper
Commodity Markets and Energy Transition Expert Group
The Expert Group provides a dedicated platform for peer learning, exchange of practice, and informed dialogue on how commodity markets can support a credible net-zero transition. Convened by the UN SSE and in collaboration with S&P Global Energy, the group brings together over 20 stock exchanges, as well as regulators, and market participants to explore market developments, identify challenges, and share practical insights on the role of commodities in supporting the transition to low- and zero-emissions energy systems.
The objective of the group is to identify and overcome market-structure problems across emerging and evolving commodity and environmental markets associated with the transition to low- and zero-emissions forms of energy. The discussions and any written contributions within this group will take place under the Chatham House Rules and help to inform a Whitepaper publication in Q4 2027.
