As part of the exchange’s ongoing work with the media to promote the country's stock market culture, Ecuadorian stock exchange Bolsa de Valores de Guayaquil (BVG) held their first journalist workshop of the year at the exchange office, with the theme of "Sustainable finance: introduction to ESG factors and opportunities in the issuance of thematic bonds in Ecuador."
The workshop included discussions from Ricardo Rivadeneira, president of BVG’s board of directors, Fabricio Arellano, chief of operations of the BVG, Barbra Valle Matute, Silvercross Commercial Assistant Manager and Tiffany Grabski, head of the SSE Academy.
“Climate change and its impacts are increasingly one of the main problems that companies must face, since they represent a significant risk to the stability of the financial system as a whole,” Tiffany Grabski said, providing an overview of the training that stock exchanges globally have provided markets participants on the topic of climate change and climate-related financial disclosures. Since 2021, stock exchanges have facilitated the training of over 20,000 market participants on that topic.
Ms. Grabksi went on to discuss the important awareness raising role that stock exchanges play, applauding the BVG’s recent bell-ringing event for gender equality. The UN SSE recently launched a series of market monitors that provide an overview of the state of gender equality performance in leadership of listed companies.
