This session brings together stock exchanges, standard setters and investors to examine how capital market infrastructure can accelerate the flow of finance toward nature-positive outcomes and support implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework's goals and targets. As biodiversity considerations become material to business and investment decisions, the rules, disclosure standards, and market mechanisms that underpin capital markets must evolve in step. Drawing on concrete examples of exchange- and regulator-led action already underway — from nature-related disclosure requirements to biodiversity-linked financial instruments — panelists will discuss what is working, where the gaps remain, and what is needed to move nature from a peripheral concern to a mainstream driver of capital allocation.
This session speaks directly to two items on the COP17 agenda: resource mobilisation and the financial mechanism, and the global review of collective progress on Kunming-Montreal GBF implementation. It focuses specifically on Target 14 (mainstreaming biodiversity into policies, regulations and financial sector planning), Target 15 (business and financial institution disclosure and assessment of biodiversity-related risks and impacts), and Target 19 (mobilising finance, including from private sources, for biodiversity). By convening stock exchanges, regulators, standard setters and investors, the session addresses the practical mechanics of how capital market infrastructure — listing rules, disclosure standards, market instruments — can operationalise these targets, complementing COP17's broader discussion of closing the biodiversity financing gap and scaling private investment.
