Modern slavery continues to affect millions of people worldwide, undermining human rights, sustainable development, and responsible business practices. Public markets, where capital is raised and traded, play a unique and powerful role in addressing this challenge by driving transparency, accountability, and improved corporate practices.

To support stock exchanges, regulators, investors, and listed companies in tackling modern slavery risks, the UN SSE has developed new model guidance on modern slavery. This new guidance was developed together with Walk Free, UN Human Rights (OHCHR), the International Labour Organization (ILO) and an advisory group of 23 organizations from 16 countries chaired by the CEO of the Indonesian Stock Exchange. This guidance provides practical steps and recommendations for market participants to strengthen due diligence, reporting, and engagement on modern slavery.

The event will officially launch the UN SSE Model Guidance on Modern Slavery. Key features of the event include:

  • Keynote addresses by the UN Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of slavery, including its causes and consequences,  and the CEO of IDX
  • Insights into the importance of public markets in combating modern slavery
  • Dialogue among exchanges, regulators, investors, companies, and civil society
  • Perspectives from global leaders, experts, and practitioners on effective actions to eradicate modern slavery in supply chains and financial systems
