Workshop Details

This workshop was developed to support capital market participants in understanding how smaller companies, or those with limited capacity or experience, can begin integrating sustainability into their business practices.

Participants will be introduced to the practical tools and frameworks designed specifically for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and companies with limited expertise on sustainability-related topics to help get started on integrating sustainability into governance, strategy, operations and disclosures.

The workshop provides participants with practical guidance and tools to understand the drivers of sustainability integration, identify key sustainability-related risks and opportunities, and begin communicating sustainability-related information effectively.

The two-hour interactive workshop guides participants through the four facets of sustainability integration that underpin the SSE's Model Guidance for SMEs, developed in collaboration with IFC:

  • Prepare — understanding the drivers of sustainability and how smaller companies can approach integration
  • Align — setting the organization up for success by integrating sustainability into governance and strategy
  • Implement — integrating sustainability objectives into business practices
  • Communicate — publicly sharing the company's sustainability policies and practices

The workshop includes live polling, interactive exercises, and a guest presentation from the Ethical Supply Chain Program illustrating what sustainability integration looks like in practice for SMEs. It is designed to be accessible to participants with no prior sustainability experience, while remaining relevant and actionable for those already beginning their journey.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand why sustainability is increasingly relevant for SMEs and all capital market participants

  • Identify practical steps smaller companies can take to begin integrating sustainability into governance and strategy

  • Understand how sustainability considerations can be embedded into business practices and risk management

  • Learn how to communicate sustainability-related information efficiently

Who Should Attend?

This workshop is relevant for the employees and leadership of SMEs or at companies that are just starting to integrate sustainability into business decision-making.

The workshop is not only relevant to listed companies themselves. As sustainability disclosure requirements expand globally, large listed companies face growing pressure to understand and report on sustainability-related information from across their value chains. Listed companies are therefore encouraged to share this workshop with their supply chain and encourage participation throughout the supply chain.
