This quarter’s webinar focuses on a range of exciting updates from the SSE: new “active member” recognition and new SSE Academy courses (at no cost to our members!). As usual, we have two call options to accommodate the many time zones of our partners, either at 09:00 or 16:00 Geneva Time (Central European Time).

New “active member” category to recognize our most engaged members

During the meeting, the SSE team will present the SSE’s new “active member” category. Since the launch of the United Nations Sustainable Stock Exchanges (SSE) initiative in 2009 by former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, capital market activities promoting good environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices have seen tremendous growth and development. The SSE, starting with five founding signatories  (B3, Borsa İstanbul, EGX, Nasdaq and JSE) has grown into a network of over 120 stock exchanges and 13 derivatives exchanges worldwide.

In order to ensure the quality of the initiative and align SSE practices with other UN-convened industry networks, and to encourage all members to follow up on their commitment, the SSE Governing Board has requested the introduction of a new structure to recognize “active members” of the SSE. To meet this demand, the SSE will introduce a new “active member” category. Tune in to the webinar to learn more.

SSE Academy - updates on Climate Disclosure and new Gender Equality Training - all offered at no cost to SSE members

The SSE Academy was created two years ago to help exchanges in their ESG market education efforts, and do so at no cost to the exchange. Since then the SSE, working with our partners, has trained over 20,000 participants across more than 40 markets. In 2023, we’ll be introducing an updated climate disclosure training (transitioning from TCFD to ISSB) and an all new gender equality training. To further support exchange’s efforts in promoting gender equality in their markets, UN SSE is partnering with IFC, SSE Partner Exchanges and gender equality experts to provide markets with high-quality training on this topic. SSE Global Dialogue - World Investment Forum - COP28

While we all appreciate the cost efficiency and effectiveness of online events, there is no substitute for in-person networking. In 2023, the SSE slowly moves back to hosting in-person events with our flagship SSE Global Dialogue high-level roundtable for exchange CEOs, Chief Securities Regulators, investors, issuers, standard setters and other market participants. We will also have more than a dozen sessions on exchanges and sustainable finance at the UNCTAD World Investment Forum in Abu Dhabi from 16-20 October this year. And then in December, the SSE will be holding two sessions on Finance Day at COP28 in Dubai. Join us on the webinar to learn more about these events and how your exchange can participate.

The SSE Governing Board has requested the introduction of a new structure to categorize the membership of the SSE. As such, the SSE initiative introduced the “active member” category, which is an exchange that actively engages, through various sustainability activities as tracked by the SSE database, to the development of sustainable financial markets. The SSE team presented the currents and future activities of the SSE Academy on GRI standards, Gender Equality and climate disclosure related training. During the afternoon call, the exchanges also heard from Bloomberg and GapSquare which partner with the UN SSE on Gender Equality training. Finally the SSE team detailed the in-person events which will take place during the World Investment Forum 2023, in particular the Global Dialogue in Abu Dhabi and COP28 in Dubai. There were questions from the audience on training and the events held by the SSE for World Investment Forum.
