The UN Global Compact, the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), and United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP-FI) will be organizing the UN SDG Private Financing Retreat, which will take place on January 27 from 9:00-17:00 and January 28 from 9:00-13:00 in Geneva, hosted by the UN SSE at the Palais des Nations.
This invitation-only event offers a timely forum for UN entities engaging the private sector on SDG financing to enhance organizational efforts, align strategies, and amplify the collective impact to drive sustainable development.
Aligned with the Secretary-General’s broader agenda to reform the international financial system and alleviate debt pressures in developing countries; this effort seeks to create a more effective, unified approach to mobilise private finance toward the SDGs.
Objectives of the Retreat include:
- Strengthen Alignment and Collaboration: Present and map-out mandates, stakeholders, and ongoing projects to identify synergies, address barriers, and enhance mutual understanding among UN entities working with the private sector.
- Develop Strategic Frameworks: Design practical collaboration models to transfer expertise effectively, and initiate input for the EOSG’s private sector policy brief and Sustainable Finance Roadmap request.
- Build a Collaborative Network: Establish a dynamic Inter-Agency Working Group to enhance continuous engagement, facilitate data and knowledge sharing, and maximize collective impact.
Following the Retreat, participants will be invited to continue their contributions toward the following key initiatives:
