Background
The UN SSE and GRI have collaborated in developing a training program aimed at building capacity and both introductory and technical knowledge of the GRI Standards. The GRI Standards and IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards can be viewed as two interconnected reporting pillars that address distinct perspectives, which can together form a comprehensive corporate reporting regime for the disclosure of sustainability information. This training program includes two 1.5 hour modules to guide both new and experienced report preparers and is certified by CPD for 1.5 CPD credits per module.
Module 1: An introduction to the GRI Standards
This module provides participants with an overview of the system of GRI Standards and explains how to get started with reporting using the Standards. In addition, the session discusses the concept of ‘double materiality’ in the context of the evolving sustainability reporting landscape and positions GRI in relation to other reporting instruments. This session is suited for participants who have not yet used the GRI Standards or are beginner reporters.
Module 2: Advanced training on GRI Standards
This module provides an overview of the revised GRI Universal Standards 2021 and highlights the differences from the previous version of the Standards. It offers a detailed discussion on materiality according to the GRI Standards and explains how to report on material topics, as well as ‘double materialiaty’ and the evolving reporting landscape, particularly IFRS and TCFD. This session is suited for participants who would like to further their learning from the first Module and those who already report using GRI.
This training course is certified by CPD and participants will receive a certificate upon completion of a feedback survey.
About the SSE
The SSE initiative is a UN Partnership Programme organised by UNCTAD, the UN Global Compact, UNEP FI and the PRI. The SSE’s mission is to provide a global platform for exploring how exchanges, in collaboration with investors, companies (issuers), regulators, policymakers and relevant international organizations, can enhance performance on ESG (environmental, social and corporate governance) issues and encourage sustainable investment, including the financing of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The SSE seeks to achieve this mission through an integrated programme of conducting evidence-based policy analysis, facilitating a network and forum for multi-stakeholder consensus-building, and providing technical assistance and advisory services.
