The UN SSE initiative training program on climate disclosures won the Climate Leadership Award at the 2023 Finance for the Future Awards. The training program was developed in collaboration with the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation (IFC) and CDP. The program brought globally-consistent, high-quality training to more than 20,000 participants by working with more than 50 stock exchanges around the world.
The Judges for the award observed that “The UN SSE initiative continues to deliver one of the largest global education programmes on climate risk disclosures, convening organisations and stock exchanges to build knowledge in both established and emerging markets.”
"We are pleased to accept this award on behalf of our training partners and our network of exchanges around the world who make all of this possible," said Tiffany Grabski, head of the SSE Academy. "The success of this training program is due to the initiative of our stock exchange members who are providing leadership in their markets through education and training. We're looking forward to expanding this proven training model to other sustainability topics, in response to growing demand from markets around the world."
The Finance for the Future Awards highlight the key role that finance plays in various sustainability-related objectives, including climate, biodiversity and social goals. The SSE, IFC, CDP training program was also “highly commended” by the judges for driving change in financial markets.
“The UN SSE initiative has impressed the judges with the global reach of its TCFD training, building capacity with over 50 stock exchanges. Its focus on bespoke market needs, feedback and continuous improvement has efficiently delivered training to 20,000+ market participants, helping scale the growth in transparency and reporting on climate risk and opportunity,” the judges said.
