Geneva - The United Nations Sustainable Stock Exchanges (UN SSE) initiative, in partnership with the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), has published a Model Guidance on Nature-related Financial Disclosures to support stock exchanges and their issuers in addressing nature-related risks and opportunities. The guidance was officially launched at the Building Bridges conference in Geneva this week.
“The SSE is proud to have developed the new “Model Guidance on Nature-related Financial Disclosures” in partnership with the TNFD. This guidance offers stock exchanges and listed companies a practical toolkit to turn ambition into action. By aligning with the TNFD and other emerging global frameworks, it supports high-quality, decision-useful reporting that enables financial markets to better consider nature-related financial risks and opportunities. Clear and consistent disclosures can help direct capital toward investments that protect and restore nature, building resilience and long-term value for investors and markets.” - Anthony Miller, Chief Coordinator, UN SSE
“Stock exchanges play a crucial role in preparing their markets for developing and disclosing nature-related information. With investor demand for nature-related information only increasing, we hope this guidance will help stock exchanges support their issuers with understanding and integrating nature-related considerations beyond climate change into their capital allocation decisions.” - Tony Goldner, CEO, TNFD
Why provide guidance on nature-related financial disclosure?
Nature is the foundation of the global economy. Its accelerating degradation poses material risks to businesses, investors, and financial institutions, as well as affecting financial stability. Clear, consistent, and science-based guidance on nature-related financial disclosure enables organisations to identify, assess, disclose, and respond to their dependencies and impacts on nature. This, in turn, strengthens risk management, improves transparency, drives accountability, and helps direct capital towards nature-positive outcomes, building resilience and long-term value.
“Nature-related risks and opportunities are increasingly central to sustainable finance. Clear, practical guidance such as the UN SSE and TNFD Model Guidance is invaluable for exchanges and issuers alike, helping to foster consistent, investor-grade disclosure and accelerate market engagement. Euronext welcomes this initiative and is committed to supporting capacity-building efforts that empower companies to integrate nature into their decision-making.” - Camille Leca, Group Head of ESG & Sustainable Finance, Euronext
“SGX Group welcomes this new guidance as it gives exchanges a practical framework to help companies integrate nature-related risks and opportunities into their disclosures. Clear guidance of this kind is important to support market transparency and mobilise capital for sustainable development.” - Herry Cho, Managing Director, Head of Sustainability and Sustainable Finance, SGX Group
Building on the SSE Model Guidance series
This publication builds on the SSE’s Model Guidance series, which provides stock exchanges with templates for voluntary guidelines on key sustainability topics. Previous guidance in the series has addressed ESG Disclosure (2015), Climate Disclosures (2021), Sustainability-related Financial Disclosures (2024), SMEs (2025), and Climate Transition Plans (2025). By offering these templates, the Model Guidance series helps ensure consistency across markets, giving stock exchanges the building blocks they need to issue guidance and provide education tailored to their domestic contexts.
The new guidance on nature-related financial disclosures follows the established UN SSE structure for guidance, with four chapters walking companies through the disclosure process.
Training program coming soon
In addition to guidance, the SSE Academy, in partnership with the TNFD will be launching a new training program on nature-related financial disclosures. The SSE Academy, in partnership with SSE Partner Stock Exchanges, has trained over 50,000 market participants.
“Guidance is only as effective as the market’s capacity to put it into practice. That’s why, alongside this new Model Guidance, we are launching a dedicated training programme within the SSE Academy in early 2026. This initiative will build capacity across markets worldwide and introduce exchanges and issuers to the critical importance of managing their dependencies and impacts on nature." - Dr. Tiffany Grabski, SSE Academy Head
