SSE Contributes to Caribbean Environmental, Social and Governance Workshop

20 July 2022

(14 July 2022) The UN SSE initiative delivered a brief lecture on the importance of climate change in the ESG agenda as part of a two-day environmental, social and governance (ESG) workshop hosted by the Jamaica Stock Exchange. The workshop titled “ESG the new Buzz word” brought together relevant stakeholders on ESG issues and discussed their importance for financial institutions and investors in the Caribbean.  UN SSE initiative’s Academy Head Tiffany Grabski provided an overview of climate-related risks and opportunities, the integration of climate into risk management processes and the TCFD as it related to the broader disclosure landscape. The UN SSE also offers detailed training on climate-related financial disclosures together with stock exchanges to help enhance issuers’ and investors’ knowledge and resources to enhance the integration of climate into risk management and disclosure practices.  In her presentation, Grabski provided an overview of the more than 70 stock exchanges that are already supporting disclosure of climate-related financial disclosures in their market through at least one of five activities tracked by the UN SSE. The recently launched TCFD database illustrates an important momentum among stock exchanges supporting both investors and listed companies on this topic.  To find out more about the UN SSE’s work related to climate, visit www.sseinitiative.org/climate-action

About the SSE

The SSE initiative is a UN Partnership Programme organised by UNCTAD, the UN Global Compact, UNEP FI and the PRI. The SSE’s mission is to provide a global platform for exploring how exchanges, in collaboration with investors, companies (issuers), regulators, policymakers and relevant international organizations, can enhance performance on ESG (environmental, social and corporate governance) issues and encourage sustainable investment, including the financing of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The SSE seeks to achieve this mission through an integrated programme of conducting evidence-based policy analysis, facilitating a network and forum for multi-stakeholder consensus-building, and providing technical assistance and advisory services.
