NYSE Becomes SSE Partner Exchange

24 July 2013

On 24 July 2013, the SSE initiative and NYSE Euronext organized a special reception and closing bell ceremony to commemorate NYSE’s partnering with the SSE to promote sustainable capital markets. NYSE Euronext’s commitment signals the significance of sustainability to the private sector globally. In remarks delivered at the New York Stock Exchange, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon commended the company for its commitment to improve the environmental, social and corporate governance performance of companies and promote sustainable investment.   “I thank NYSE Euronext for committing to the Sustainable Stock Exchanges initiative and I urge stock exchanges around the world to follow your lead,” said the UN Secretary-General. He continued: “I join you here today because I believe in working for more prosperous and inclusive societies, thriving markets and economies and a greener planet. We cannot achieve these goals without the participation of all. We all need to be shareholders in a sustainable future.” Additional Resources:

About the SSE

The SSE initiative is a UN Partnership Programme organised by UNCTAD, the UN Global Compact, UNEP FI and the PRI. The SSE’s mission is to provide a global platform for exploring how exchanges, in collaboration with investors, companies (issuers), regulators, policymakers and relevant international organizations, can enhance performance on ESG (environmental, social and corporate governance) issues and encourage sustainable investment, including the financing of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The SSE seeks to achieve this mission through an integrated programme of conducting evidence-based policy analysis, facilitating a network and forum for multi-stakeholder consensus-building, and providing technical assistance and advisory services.
