Fostering Green Capital Markets in the South

The COP22 Side Event was a dialogue jointly organized by The Moroccan Capital Market Authority (AMMC), The Casablanca Stock Exchange, The Moroccan Central Securities Depository (MAROCLEAR), and the United Nations Sustainable Stock Exchanges (SSE) initiative and was alongside the COP22 event in Morocco. The theme of this dialogue was “Fostering Green Capital Markets in the South.”

At this dialogue, speakers addressed the two main topics of:

  • Share and discuss the global trends, best practices, and recent developments with regard to climate finance regulation and green capital market initiatives.
  • Explore the opportunities for building effective global and regional partnerships among regulators, exchanges, and central securities depositories, with a particular focus on promoting the sharing of knowledge and experience (North-to-South, South-to-North and South-to-South) as well as the spread of best practices and the development of local expertise in developing and emerging countries.

About the SSE

​The SSE initiative is a UN Partnership Programme organised by UNCTAD, the UN Global Compact, UNEP FI and the PRI. The SSE’s mission is to provide a global platform for exploring how exchanges, in collaboration with investors, companies (issuers), regulators, policymakers and relevant international organizations, can enhance performance on ESG (environmental, social and corporate governance) issues and encourage sustainable investment, including the financing of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The SSE seeks to achieve this mission through an integrated programme of conducting evidence-based policy analysis, facilitating a network and forum for multi-stakeholder consensus-building, and providing technical assistance and advisory services.
